Enschede was granted city rights in 1325. In 2025, this 700th anniversary is celebrated by organising all kinds of festivities. The city's residents have been asked to come up with creative ideas and initiatives with a special focus on diversity. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes not only the diversity of its inhabitants, but also the diversity of the city's technological, innovative and creative values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carillons of Enschede in 150 sounds of colour<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There are 49 bells in the tower of the Grote Kerk on the Oude Markt and in the steel tower on the campus of the University of Twente. If you are near these towers, you will hear the carillon music sprinkled over the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esther Schopman, the city carillonist of Enschede, thought it would be great to arrange for all nearly 150 nationalities living, working or studying in Enschede a song that is characteristic of that country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That's why we are collecting non-political songs among the residents of Enschede from all 150 nationalities in our city; songs that can connect! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which song does everyone know from your country of origin? Which song is very important for your country of origin and can everyone sing along?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city carillonist is going to play the collected songs on the carillon during a number of special concerts in 2025. At that time, if you walk across the campus of the University of Twente or on the Oude Markt, you will hear the bell music.
